One of the most important benefits of selenium is that it can help you avoid cancer.

In case you’ve never heard of benefits of selenium before, you should know that it is a trace mineral that becomes part of plants and certain other foods in relation to the selenium content in the soil.

When this mineral becomes part of your body, it bonds with proteins to form selenoproteins.

These special types of proteins have an intense antioxidant capability that can help protect your body from the attack of free radicals.

In case you weren’t aware of it, the overwhelming influence of free radicals is one of the things that can cause cancerous growth.

It’s important to know that scientists have been studying the benefits of selenium in animal diets for over twenty years.

There have been several significant studies that have shown that tiny amounts of selenium in the diet can reduce the chances that animals will develop cancer in several organs.

However, studies that demonstrate the advantages of adding more selenium to human diets has remained inconclusive.

It’s important to point out, however, that several clinical trials and some epidemiological data have shown that selenium can have positive effects when used to prevention degenerative conditions.

These effects have been shown with regard to cancer, inflammatory and cardiovascular diseases, neurological dysfunctions, aging, and infections.

If you’re interested in taking advantage of the benefits of selenium, but aren’t sure how to find sources of this trace mineral, you should know that there are several different foods that you can strive to include in your diet to make sure you’re getting enough selenium.

Some of the foods you should consider making a part of your weekly diet include: cereal grains and pasta, leafy vegetables, nuts and seeds (especially Brazil nuts).
